Harvest and Connect Mobile iOS App from John Deere
John Deere has been doing a lot of great work in the realm of agricultural automation and integrating the latest mobile technologies so farmers can have all the information they need wherever they go. Harvest Mobile is just one piece of that technology, an iOS app that connects farmers with their equipment, helping to monitor, optimize, and ensure the highest quality of operation. Harvest Mobile hardware is factory installed on all model year 2016 and newer S-Series combines, making it easy to get started with Harvest Mobile.
At Mid-State Equipment, we try to keep up with the latest industry technologies so our customers don’t have to. Today we’re talking about mobile integration, and fortunately John Deere has made it as easy as can be. Whether you want to start building your autonomous operations or continue to integrate what you already have, Harvest Mobile and the John Deere Connect Mobile app will be of great use. Monitor Harvest Performance
Operators equipped with Harvest Mobile will be able to monitor harvests through a set of robust maps with layers that improve in-cab information. Harvest Mobile can monitor and document data attributes across multiple spectrums, including:
Ground speed – measurement of distance over time to show how fast the combine is moving at a specific area in the field. This is a new harvest map layer to be displayed in the cab.
Moisture – measurement of 0-100 percent that shows the moisture content of the crop for a specific area in the field. This is also able to be displayed and captured in the GreenStar™ 3 (GS3) 2630 Display and 4600 CommandCenter™ display harvest documentation data.
Dry yield – measurement in mass per area after taking into consideration the removal of moisture to the standard payable moisture. This is a new harvest map layer to be displayed in the cab.
Wet yield – measurement in mass per area for a specific area in the field. This is also able to be displayed and captured in the GS3 2630 and 4600 CommandCenter harvest documentation data.
Each attribute can be shown as a dashboard and map layer with numbers that represent realm-time value provided by the machine.
Integrate with Existing John Deere Technology
Harvest Mobile works with the GreenStar™ 3 (GS3) 2630 Display or 4600 CommandCenter™ display, Harvest Doc™ mapping system, and combine controller software to enhance the operator’s experience while harvesting.
Inside the cab, the operator can use their own iPad tablet to display critical harvest data. In 9X70 Series STS™ combines through model year 2017 S-Series combines, the GS3 2630 Display automatically sends setup information and GPS data directly to the wireless data server and the iPad.
In model year 2018 and newer combines, this data is processed by the 4600 display and sent to via Wi-Fi. This reduces the number steps operators have to configure and ensures accuracy of the data with the StarFire™ 6000 or 3000 Receiver. John Deere’s StarFire 6000 or 3000 Receiver provides much greater harvest data mapping accuracy versus any internal iPad GPS.
Interactive Combine Adjustment
Interactive Combine Adjustment (ICA) is made simple with Harvest Mobile. ICA assists combine operators to improve daily and seasonal productivity, a feature designed to handle operational issues faced when changing crop or harvest conditions. That means even greater efficiency!
Operators can select harvest outcome priority order based on grain loss, broken grain, grain cleanliness, and straw quality with a simple visual interface. This makes it easy to identify issues and adjust settings to optimize harvesting performance. ICA also recommends adjustments based on priorities, combine settings, and issues reported by operators. When a recommendation is selected, ICA automatically makes the adjustment. Some recommendations — like ground speed — also offer a manual adjustment option. The result is improved combine performance and a higher-quality harvest.
Harvest Mobile also features a runtime monitor with key indicators for rotor speed, fan speed, threshing clearance, chaffer opening, sieve opening, average moisture, average wet yield, and average dry yield during harvest. These are all displayed on your iPad for easy monitoring.
Field Review
The Field Review functionality will let operators learn new insights about their harvesting. Growers can view harvest maps of a field that’s begun is completed harvest. You can access harvest data directly from your iPad anywhere, anytime, and Field Review allows you to select which field you’re looking at with up to four map layers documented during harvest operations. Overall, this provides operators the ability to scout fields during and after harvest. This helps to evaluate different fields for high or low performance areas.
Harvest Mobile and the Connect Mobile app will help combine operators monitor performance, adjust combine settings, and helps you learn about how and where you can improve future performance. That’s an awful lot from a simple app!
